"Northport" is one film of a trilogy, along with "Marietta" and "Christian and Michael". It explores the domestic life of a cultural, intellectual couple, Christian and Michael. In their summer home in Michigan, where Michael is from, they surround themselves with what moves them. The camera searches through this setting almost as a separate character, observing how they fill and utilize their lives. They are joined by Christian's mother, Marietta, and together they relax in their summer environment, surrounded by their cultural interests.
